Maglite Partners with National Police Dog Foundation to Raise Funds for Law Enforcement K9 Programs

Maglite Partners with National Police Dog Foundation to Raise Funds for Law Enforcement K9 Programs

As a company who has been a long-time supporter of law enforcement, it was not surprising when the National Police Dog Foundation approached the MAGLITE brand about sponsorship and collaboration they gladly accepted.  “I have a deep appreciation for law enforcement and am a dog lover” said MAGLITE founder, Anthony Maglica.  “I am proud to offer support to the National Police Dog Foundation.” The National Police Dog Foundation and MAGLITE hope to spread awareness and support for active and retired law enforcement K9s.  MAGLITE is offering a line of laser engraved flashlights in support of this effort.  The collection can be found exclusively on MAGLITE.COM.  We are aware of the long-standing commitment to support law enforcement that Maglite has and are pleased to have them as a partner supporting the mission of the National Police Dog Foundation,” said Judi Reilly, President of the National Police Dog Foundation. The National Police Dog Foundation helps law enforcement agencies with funding to achieve their goals of providing their community with K-9 units that have high-quality and well-trained police dogs. The Foundation assists Police Service K9s by awarding Grants in Purchase, Training, Retired K9 Veterinary Care, Active K9 Veterinary Care, and several other programs. In addition, the Foundation has developed a network of veterinarians who help assist agencies with costly medical situations that might occur during their active service career. Equally important to the Foundation is the continued care for the police service dogs after retirement. As part of the official events of Police Week in Washington, DC, the National Police Dog Foundation hosts the annual National Police K9 Memorial Service. The memorial service includes a wreath and rose-laying ceremony to honor the memory of fallen police K9s who have given their lives in the line of duty. Hurricane Disaster-Preparedness

Hurricane Disaster-Preparedness

Disaster-Preparedness Training Expert and author, Haskell Moore, says relying on a cell phone for light during a disaster is a mistake. Many people seem to think that because they have a phone that has a light mode they don’t need to have a flashlight in case of an emergency. According to Haskell Moore, a disaster-preparedness training expert, and author of the book “Hurricane Preparedness for Home and Family”, this is a dangerous mistake. “To use your phone as an emergency light source has several drawbacks, first you want to save the battery to take and place emergency calls and also receive texts and alerts from authorities. Secondly, the lumens on a phone are very low, typically around 40, and not very well directed, so while great for helping you find a dropped car key in a dim parking lot, it’s not so useful for signaling a rescue chopper,”  Moore said. Your phone needs to be saved for critical communications, you should get a strong lasting battery-operated light like the Maglite 300L 4D that will last up to two weeks on a single set of batteries and a smaller more compact light for tight spaces like a MagTac 2 or Mini-Maglite. “Save your phone for emergency communications and have two trusty flashlights minimum is my advice in any emergency,”  Haskell Moore

MAGLITE® and the American Paramedic Association Partner with Pedestrian Safety Institute to Promote Traffic and Pedestrian safety During July – the Deadliest Month of the Year

MAGLITE® and the American Paramedic Association Partner with Pedestrian Safety Institute to Promote Traffic and Pedestrian safety During July – the Deadliest Month of the Year

Pedestrian Deaths Jumped Sharply Despite Pandemic – Less Miles Driven (Ontario, CA) June 21, 2022: The Maglite brand partners up with The American Paramedic Association (APA) and the Pedestrian Safety Institute (PSI) to support traffic and pedestrian safety during the deadliest month of the year. According to the PSI, July maintains the highest rate of traffic related fatalities specifically with those of pedestrians. The days surrounding July 4th are particularly dangerous.  “Paramedics are those that treat the injured and see the deaths up close from traffic fatalities and want to urge people to be more cautious so that we can respond to less of these tragedies,” said, Andrew Stephen, Executive Director of APA.   “Any time a paramedic is out of their vehicle, the goal is to be visible.  Why should it be any different for pedestrians?” Darkness and low-visibility play a significant role in pedestrian deaths. In fact, more than 70% of fatalities happen at dawn, dusk or night. Maglite and the American Paramedic Association are on a mission to illuminate the dangers of driving in low-visibility conditions to reduce deaths and injuries. In order to raise awareness, they are distributing press materials and alerting the media about the dangers pedestrians will face in the coming months, while also promoting National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month.  National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month was created by the Pedestrian Safety Institute with the goal of educating and urging drivers to use caution while driving during this time of year. “There are simple ways to reduce the number of deaths due to pedestrian traffic accidents - carry a bright flashlight, wear reflective clothing and be cautious, especially around fast-moving traffic,” said Tony Maglica, founder and CEO of Mag Instrument, Inc., manufacturer of the Maglite® Flashlight.  According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), more than 6,700 pedestrians died in vehicle related accidents in 2020, up 6,412 the year before. GHSA  projected that pedestrian fatality rate increased around 20% as deaths climbed sharply despite people driving less during the pandemic.Preliminary data from 2021 indicates yet another increase in pedestrian deaths.     American Paramedics Association  https://americanparamedics.org /

Maglite National Law Enforcement Award

National Law Enforcement Hero Award To Be Presented to Hampton Police Officer Haley Magee For Rescuing Woman In A Burning Car After Terrible Accident

(Hampton Beach, NH) – On June 22, at 11A.M. in a ceremony held at the Hampton Police Department (100 Brown Ave, Hampton, NH) Officer Haley Magee will receive the National Law Enforcement Hero Award from MAGLITE®.  Magee is being honored for her extraordinary heroism in saving the life of a woman who had wrecked her car and was trapped as it started to burn.  After unsuccessfully trying to pull a door open to gain access and get the screaming woman out, Magee used her Maglite flashlight to break out the rear window of the vehicle and helped her crawl out.   I didn’t want her to be in that car, I just needed to get her out, Magee said.  She praised the toughness of her Maglite flashlight in getting the woman out of the car.  “I was able to smash the window in with it in just two strikes.” Magee took the woman to her cruiser to apply what medical assistance she could as the vehicle caught fire.   “If I had not had that kind of durable tool as the Maglite, I don’t know how I could have gotten her out,” Magee went on to say.  Deputy Police Chief Alex Reno praised officer Magee saying, “She’s a good police officer who’s focused on doing the right things and helping people.”   The National Law Enforcement Hero program is a MAGLITE® program that periodically honors single officers, groups or whole departments for an extraordinary commitment to upholding excellence in law enforcement activities.  “Our commitment to law enforcement is deeply ingrained in our culture and history at Maglite and we’ll never waiver from it,” said Anthony Maglica, Founder and CEO of Mag Instrument Inc. “This is why we are committed to supporting this program. Teenage Girl Who Saved Siblings and Beloved Pug from Devastating House-Fire to Receive MAGLITE® Tough Award

Teenage Girl Who Saved Siblings and Beloved Pug from Devastating House-Fire to Receive MAGLITE® Tough Award

(Ontario, CA) January 10, 2022 – It was a snowy evening during Christmas week in Winlock, Washington and Haylee Laur was babysitting two of her youngest siblings while her parents were out picking up a new washer and dryer.  Haylee, 15 was in the living room while her sisters played in other rooms when she smelled smoke.  Turning to the source down the hallway she saw flames leaping from the closet that held the home heating system.  Haylee had to run past the flames to get to the youngest, her sister, three-year-old Elijah (Ellie).  With Ellie in her arms she made sure the other child at home, four-year-old Madison also got out.  Once outside with the others they realized their beloved Pug Buddy, (who has a bad leg and trouble walking) was still inside.  Crawling to avoid the smoke she went back into the house and rescued Buddy. All the kids were barefoot and the baby, Ellie was in just a diaper.  Haylee picked up the two babies and carried them barefoot through several snow covered pastures to reach a neighbor’s home for shelter and while doing so called in the fire to 911.  Reaching the safety of the neighbors, Haylee on the phone with emergency dispatch called her mother and informed her where they were and about the fire.  By the time fire rescue arrived in the form of the Toledo, Napavine and Chehalis fire response, the home was fully engulfed and could not be saved.  Everything the family owned except the clothes on their backs were completely destroyed.  The family has struggled to find help since the disaster and the children are spread among several relatives while the rest of the family has been staying in a local hotel.  The family needs a rental that they can afford and right now does not have the funds to come up with a first and last rental payment and security deposit.   “I don’t even know how to begin to pick up the pieces, we are all still in shock and just trying to get through each day,” said Haylee’s mom, Nichole Johnston.  “Haylee’s my hero.  I am so proud of her; she saved the children’s and the dog’s life.  So we certainly have that to be thankful for.  The house is gone, we are financially ruined, but all my children are alive and well – that is a blessing.” Maglite will honor Haylee with the MAGLITE ® Tough Award at a ceremony at the VR Lee Community Building, 221 SW 13th Street in Chehalis at eleven a.m. on Thursday, January 13th.  The entire family will be on hand as well as community members and representatives from Maglite. “We are proud to honor Haylee for her heroic actions and hope that along with the support that we can give as a company that others in the community and beyond will see the news coverage of this event and be moved to help this family in any way that they can,” said Anthony Maglica, Founder and CEO of Mag Instrument Inc. the company behind the iconic Maglite flashlight brand.  About Mag Instrument: Mag Instrument, manufacturer of the MAGLITE® flashlight, is proud to be a U.S.A. manufacturer. Each flashlight is a result of an obsession with fine engineering, craftsmanship and a commitment to perfection. Founder, owner and President Anthony Maglica has guided his company’s growth from a one-man machine shop in 1955 to an enterprise that has proudly employed thousands of American workers since it produced its first flashlight in 1979. The Deadliest Days of the Year are Upon Us; Days Surrounding the 4th of July See Dramatic Spike in Traffic Related Deaths Every Year

The Deadliest Days of the Year are Upon Us; Days Surrounding the 4th of July See Dramatic Spike in Traffic Related Deaths Every Year MAGLITE® and First Responders Children’s Foundation Partner to Promote Traffic and Pedestrian safety  (Ontario, CA) June 30, 2021: The deadliest days of the year for traffic related accidents are those surrounding the 4th of July holiday.  Every year there is a dramatic spike in pedestrian related deaths and injuries during that time.  According to AutoInsurance.Org, Independence Day averages 450 fatal crashes per year. On average 17 pedestrians are killed every day, with 74% of fatal incidents happening at night according to the Pedestrian Safety Institute. In response MAGLITE® and First Responders Children’s Foundation (FRCF) are joining together to promote traffic and pedestrian safety awareness. Pedestrian fatalities spiked in 2021 even though there was less traffic on the roads due to the pandemic.  According to PEW, “Pedestrian fatalities grew in 27 states in the first half of 2020.”  Also the Governors Highway Safety Association estimates that overall, “the pedestrian death rate rose 20% during that period. Nearly 3,000 pedestrians were killed, even though there was a 16.5% decrease in traffic.” Darkness and low-visibility play a significant role in pedestrian deaths. In fact, more than 70 percent of fatalities happen at night or at dusk or dawn hours. MAGLITE® and First Responders Children’s Foundation are on a mission to illuminate the deadliest days of the year and to highlight the dangers of driving in low-visibility conditions to reduce deaths and injuries.   The Centers for Disease Control offer these tips to be safer as a pedestrian at night: Carry a flashlight when walking and wear reflective clothing Cross streets at designated crosswalks or intersections Walk on sidewalk instead of the road or walk on the shoulder facing traffic if a sidewalk or path is not available.  “Carrying a powerful light source will decrease the chance you are struck by a car and injured or killed this coming weekend and the rest of the year,”   said Anthony Maglica, Founder and Owner of Mag Instrument Inc.  “I wish everyone a safe and happy Independence Day!” More information about First Responders Children’s Foundation is available at www.1stRCF.org.
