Mag Instrument Renews Partnership with Red Cross
Sponsor Commits $500,000 to Support the Red Cross Together We Prepare Initiative

WASIDNGTON, D.C. (June XX, 2004) – The American Red Cross (www.redcross.org) is pleased to announce that Mag Instrument has renewed its partnership with the organization,
providing continued financial support and public outreach for its life-saving initiatives, including the Red Cross Together We Prepare initiative. Mag Instrument, maker of Maglite® flashlights, the world’s leading premium flashlights, has committed an additional $250,000 to the Red Cross for the next two years.

Together We Prepare, a nationwide campaign first launched in February 2003, challenges individuals to take five proactive steps-make a plan, build a kit, get trained, volunteer and give blood-to prepare for and respond to disasters, both natural and man-made. While the partnership with Mag Instrument continues to build awareness for the entire program, it focuses on step two: build a kit. The company’s designated U.S. flashlight packaging provides consumers with a checklist of items to include in a disaster supplies kit. When evacuating or sheltering in place, a disaster supplies kit can save lives. One critical component of a disaster supplies kit is a flashlight.

Through sales of flashlights with this informative packaging, Mag Instrument has helped the Red Cross reach over 1 0 million people, helping families to be prepared for possible emergencies. In addition to the $250,000 contributed last year, Mag Instrument is dedicated to raising awareness of the Together We Prepare initiative by providing critical Red Cross Emergency Preparedness information on the Maglite® flashlight packaging, point of purchase displays, TV advertising, and the Mag Instrument web site (www.maglite.com).

“The Together We Prepare initiative offers individuals, families, businesses and communities peace of mind by providing simple, proactive steps they can take to prepare for any type of disaster,” said Marsha J. Evans, President and CEO, American Red Cross. ”Now more than ever
Americans are concerned about personal safety, and I commend Mag Instrument for understanding the importance of this initiative and for helping to connect people directly to the lifesaving work of the Red Cross.”

“Mag Instrument and its employees have a long history of working with disaster relief organizations to assist in recovery efforts when disasters have occurred,” said Tony Maglica, the president, founder and owner of the company. “We welcome the opportunity to continue this partnership with the American Red Cross in an effort to help the public prepare in advance of a disaster-it is most gratifying for Mag Instrument as a company and for me personally.”

With the support of individuals and corporations, such as Mag Instrument, the Red Cross helps victims of more than 70,000 disasters each year — disasters ranging from house fires to hurricanes and other widespread catastrophes, including the 516 tornadoes across the Midwest
and Southeast states and wildfires in Southern California last year. These types of events along with an awareness of national security threats over the last few years have sharpened the focus on a need for increased national preparedness.

“We feel that the performance, reliability and dependability of Maglite@ flashlights is legendary and lends significant support to the Together We Prepare initiative,” said Maglica.

The Mag Instrument® flashlights including the Red Cross emergency preparedness information are offered to national and regional retailers across the United States.
